The Pilgrim’s Call
A Tale Illustrative of “The Pilgrim’s Progress”
Charlotte Maria Tucker (1821 – 1893) was a prolific writer and poet for children and adults, who preferred to write under the pseudonym A.L.O.E. (a Lady of England).
This thought-provoking work by Mrs. Tucker was created to help the young tread the path of Bunyan’s pilgrim, and to point out the guiding light which marks the straight and narrow way. In this fascinating story a poor peasant boy discovers a secret about his past that propels him forward and changes his life forever.
On his journey he learns that the way of truth is not always smooth. He is overcome with disappointment at the hypocrisy of a trusted friend. So with armor clad, Mark treads along, fighting the enemy at every turn as he presses onward toward the prize!
Character themes in this story: salvation.
“This is a must read! A captivating story of three key characters and how their lives have been providentially intertwined. It is a story of perseverance, grace and unexpected twists and turns. We particularly enjoyed the godly wisdom of the boy’s tutor, referring to the story of Pilgrim’s Progress and how it and Scripture guided the walk of these young pilgrims through life’s challenges.” – Hazen family, Seabrook, Texas
“The message of this book needs to be read over and over again. But not more than God’s Word itself! This riveting tale of a young man who longs for something more than this life impacted me spiritually and emotionally. So much so that it makes me long for that heavenly city; and while I am on this pilgrimage through life that I would point others to our King Jesus as I journey on toward my heavenly home!” — Watertown, SD

About the Lamplighter Rare Collector’s Series
Lamplighter stories are much more than good and wholesome reading for the family. The inspiring role models found in Lamplighter books show a child that outward compliance alone will not carry a child through the stresses and disappointments soon to be faced in adolescence and adulthood, nor are they a substitute for faith in Christ. As we learn of perseverance, courage, loyalty, humility, these are qualities to emulate and pursue, but as children read in stories of others like them trying their best and falling short, they will powerfully learn their need for the gospel. Though life is often not easy, we can be confident that each disappointment and trial is designed by a loving God for our good.
Lamplighter books are carefully designed to draw children back to the Bible, to ensure that each story reflects the character of God. Often, key Scriptures are referenced so that they may be stored in a child’s heart. Lamplighter volumes are recognizable right away by their beautiful, high-quality bindings. But the other unique feature of a Lamplighter book, in contrast to other publications of the same title, is that the Lamplighter editions have been enhanced with helpful footnotes and woven with threads of Biblical truths that will be etched into an awakened moral conscience. These characteristics are what make our Lamplighter Collection so unique and highly valued.
