Teach Them the Faith
Christian Essentials in Song
Our children are like tender plants that need to be fed, watered, and cared for. As Christian parents, we are commanded by God to train our children in His Word – to understand Who God is and what He requires of us. The Bible is our standard against which we are to measure all other things in life. With this in mind, we have put the essential doctrines of the Christian faith to song, using The Catechism for Young Children: An Introduction to the Shorter Catechism, in 50 tracks covering all 145 questions and answers of that children’s catechism.
“This is an outstanding tool for parents who desire to raise their children in the ways of the Lord. Entertaining, enjoyable, and instructive.”
— Mike Robinson, Crown and Covenant Publications
Based on The Catechism for Young Children
A beautiful CD focused on teaching the Catechism for Young Children (a shortened version of the Westminster Shorter Catechism) to younger children with music. Dan and Karen are professionally trained musicians with a keen sense of pleasant melodies, interesting harmonies, and tonal moods. The music fortifies, rather than fights against, the all-important textual message they are promoting.
Supporting background music is performed on acoustic guitars, synthesized orchestral instruments, light percussion, and keyboards. The CD progresses in the question and answer format, with Karen Vitco singing the catechism questions, followed by about a dozen children singing responses, sometimes alone and sometimes as a choir. All of the voices are pleasant and their words are easy to understand.
The challenge of setting a catechism to music is daunting, but the end result of the Vitco’s work is satisfying and useful.
A CD to be used during long drives, at home, or as a pleasing teaching device. After only a few plays, young children will be singing along with the questions and responses. Learning anything is easier when music accompanies the text! This CD provides a great way to begin teaching your little ones the important doctrines of the faith.
