Election and Free Will: God’s Gracious Choice and Our Responsibility (Robert Peterson)

$17.99 $13.75

A book which helps those who believe in a Reformed view of predestination to better understand their faith. It traces Scripture’s teaching on election through the Bible and explains biblically the doctrine of free will. It tackles objections to predestination and concludes with applications of this neglected biblical teaching. Clear, strongly biblically based, and solidly Reformed. This book gives special attention to free will and seeks to apply the truth about election to contemporary culture.

What a wonderful book! Most discussions of the doctrine of election and free will have become a ‘take-no-prisoners’ kind of theological warfare. Robert Peterson’s clear and irenic presentation never compromises the truth, but it does open the door for God’s people, who sometimes disagree about important truths, to talk.”  Steve Brown, radio host and seminary professor at Reformed Theological Seminary in Orlando, Florida.

About the Author

Robert A. Peterson (MDiv, Biblical Theological Seminary; PhD, Drew University) was professor of systematic theology at Covenant Seminary for more than twenty-five years. He has served seven churches as an interim pastor and is the author of a number of books, including Hell on TrialAdopted by God, and Election and Free Will.

Reader Review

“The supposed dichotomy of election and free will has been the source of much tension and division throughout church history (which is also a good indicator that answers to these questions are not readily or easily found). Peterson’s attempt here is to show that Scripture teaches both divine sovereignty and human responsibility, and to explore where (and on whom) the Word places its emphases. The result is an astute and informative resource, cemented in Scriptural foundations.” — Mark Powell
