Early Church History

The period known as early church history (the first few centuries) was defined by the leadership of those who have come to be known as the church fathers, men like Ignatius, Irenaeus, Polycarp, Athanasius, and later Augustine of Hippo. Often allegorical in their approach to Scripture, sometimes erring (like every generation since, of course), but devoutly committed to the Lordship of Jesus Christ in all of life, they faced challenged from the societies in which they lived of very different types than we face today.  The times of the early church are arguably the period of Christian history about which the least is known by today’s believers.  The books in this section warrant the perusal of any student of history who would know what took place in the first few centuries after the ascension of Christ, and the impact of those years upon the church since.
