Now and then, I’ll hear someone decry the use of commentaries, as though looking into one somehow undermines reliance on the Scriptures alone.  Nothing could be further from the truth. Who among us has not asked other Christian friends, “Here is what I think this portion of Scripture means; what do you think?”  To consult with others is not an inappropriate reliance on men rather than looking to the Word; rather, it is taking the Word so seriously that I am willing to question myself and take every possible step to insure that I am not blinded by some of my own inclinations and biases.  The valuable collection of commentaries found below offer to every Bible student the fruits of the laborious work of brothers in the Lord who have gone before you, with a passion and determination like your own to understand and apply the Scriptures.
